Michael “Sherm” Porter has been a successful Delaware business owner since 1998. After many years at the helm of Sherm's Catering on Brandywine Boulevard in Bellefonte, he opened Destination Success Coaching, to help others become successful business owners within the Mid-Atlantic region. Sherm makes it a goal to help others while striving to maintain a healthy and attractive Delaware business environment. His personal passion is to retain and grow the Delaware businesses, providing better opportunities for workers and local business owners throughout our community.

Born and raised in Delaware, Sherm graduated from Christiana High School and continued his education in hospitality management attending Delaware Technical Community College and the University of Delaware, from 1991 to 1994. His education gave him the necessary skills to build his business. As he often says, “Planning for the future of Delaware begins with education.”  Sherm is a proud third generation Navy veteran. He served his country (as a E5/OS2) from 1994-1998, where he served as an (OS) Occupational Specialists, a rescue swimmer, and Air-Traffic controller for the USS Mt. Whitney LLC-20.

He has advocated for multiple charitable organizations and fundraised throughout multiple communities. Most recently, he was nominated as a 2021 Man/Woman of the Year candidate for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. He has also helped with Downs Syndrome of Delaware, Hope Street, Prestons March and Autism Delaware for years and continues to serve and donate his time at the Sunday Breakfast Mission for Thanksgiving each year. He firmly believes in giving back to individuals in all walks of life and cares deeply for our senior citizens and military veterans.

Sherm resides in the 7th Senate District of New Castle County with his fiance Kimberly Godweski. He is a proud father of two adult boys. “I’ve spent my whole life in Delaware, and it is time for me to give back to the state that has given me so much.”
